UPS: Uninterruptible Power Supply or Uninterruptible Power Supply
An uninterruptible power supply or uninterruptible power supply (UPS) is an electrical device that supplies emergency power to a load when an input or mains power failure occurs. A UPS differs from an auxiliary or emergency power system or a backup generator in that it will provide almost instantaneous protection against input power outages, providing energy stored in batteries, supercapacitors or steering wheels. The battery life of most UPS is relatively short (only a few minutes) but sufficient to start a standby power supply or shut down protected equipment properly. It is a type of continuous energy system.
UPS works with a battery that is used to supply power in the absence of a primary source or when the power is cut off. A UPS can keep a computer running for a few minutes, giving you enough time to save all your data so you don’t lose it.
Many UPS now offer software that automatically saves your data and turns off your computer.
